  • IBC 2012

Link Microtek will be attending IBC 2012 (6 – 11th September) with Narda Test Solutions. During the exhibition we will have staff on hand to discuss the NRA series of rack mount spectrum analysers. The NRA units are designed to meet the requirements of satellite operators, teleports and SNG operators for carrier monitoring and control applications. Also of interest is the IDA 3106 interference and direction analyser; a hand portable means of identifying and locating sources of interference. To see these class leading instruments in action visit Narda Test Solutions at stand 8.A04.

  • Link Microtek shortlisted for IET innovation award

We are proud to have been shortlisted by the IET for a prestigious innovation award in the ‘Measurement in Action’ category for our work with Emisens on the EMILI 2 Liquid Explosive Detection System. Much of the work to make EMILI 2 an ECAC certified LEDS has been undertaken by Link in partnership with Emisens GmbH and German research centre

Forschungszentrum Juelich and supported by Imperial College. EMILI 2 is designed for use at airport security checkpoints and feedback from a number of trials across Europe is that the unit is by far the fastest and easiest to use Type B system available. • Link Microtek welcomes Maria Miller MP after winning major order for 4G filters

Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke and Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, recently paid a visit to Link Microtek, the local manufacturer and supplier of components and equipment for the telecommunications industry.

Mrs Miller’s interest in the Church Street company was sparked after it received a major order for filters to protect Freeview TV channels from interference when 4G mobile phone networks are rolled out across the UK later this year.

As well as providing simple filters that individual consumers can easily attach to the back of their TV, we are also supplying larger filter units for professional installation into premises with a shared aerial – for example, blocks of flats. The filters will prevent the new 4G LTE signal at 800MHz from affecting digital terrestrial TV reception.

The contract was awarded by Digital Mobile Spectrum Limited, which is responsible for dealing with interference from some 4G services and is funded by EE, Telefónica UK (O2), Three and Vodafone.

Mrs Miller said: “Link Microtek has a key part to play in making sure that the rollout goes smoothly by providing filters for television systems up and down the country. It’s businesses like this that show the sort of expertise we have in Basingstoke.”

Link Microtek’s Sales Director Stuart Hendry said: “We are delighted that Mrs Miller was able to visit us, and we hope that she has gained a more in-depth understanding of the issue of interference and how the filters work. The order has been a major boost to our business and underlines our position as a premier supplier of RF/microwave components, systems and instrumentation.”

  • Mobile infra-red communications system is now NVG-compatible

An NVG-compatible version of the Azdec mobile infra-red communications system is now available. The Azdec NVG version is designed to provide totally secure, wire-free, short-range voice communications on board naval or other vessels where night vision devices may be deployed.

Particularly suitable for use on the bridge of an aircraft carrier or LPD the Azdec NVG system has no wires other than the link from headset to battery pack. It therefore gives personnel complete freedom to roam from their base positions, whereas conventional wired systems tend to severely restrict operator mobility. Operators can either speak to each other or link into the ship’s main communications system via the Azdec base station.

Unlike even low-power radio systems such as DECT, there is no possibility of a signal being detected or causing interference on electronic systems, since the envelope of reception is well defined and there are no radio-frequency emissions. This means that wire-free operational communications can still be maintained on board ship while under radio silence.

Employing low-level infra-red digital encoding technology, the Azdec NVG system provides extremely clear, multi-channel, full-duplex communications. It poses no health or EMC hazard and is completely immune to electromagnetic interference – even severe energy pulses.
