Link Microtek welcomes Maria Miller MP after winning major order for 4G filters

Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke and Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, recently paid a visit to Link Microtek, the local manufacturer and supplier of components and equipment for the telecommunications industry.

Mrs Miller’s interest in the Church Street company was sparked after it received a major order for filters to protect Freeview TV channels from interference when 4G mobile phone networks are rolled out across the UK later this year.

As well as providing simple filters that individual consumers can easily attach to the back of their TV, we are also supplying larger filter units for professional installation into premises with a shared aerial – for example, blocks of flats. The filters will prevent the new 4G LTE signal at 800MHz from affecting digital terrestrial TV reception.

The contract was awarded by Digital Mobile Spectrum Limited, which is responsible for dealing with interference from some 4G services and is funded by EE, Telefónica UK (O2), Three and Vodafone.

Mrs Miller said: “Link Microtek has a key part to play in making sure that the rollout goes smoothly by providing filters for television systems up and down the country. It’s businesses like this that show the sort of expertise we have in Basingstoke.”

Link Microtek’s Sales Director Stuart Hendry said: “We are delighted that Mrs Miller was able to visit us, and we hope that she has gained a more in-depth understanding of the issue of interference and how the filters work. The order has been a major boost to our business and underlines our position as a premier supplier of RF/microwave components, systems and instrumentation.”
