Static & low frequency magnetic field measurements
Industrial EMF safety assessments aren’t exactly glamorous and hazards can be overlooked in favour of the things that get the headlines – 5G etc. CEMFAW (& EMF Directive) Regulations list potential indirect effects to active implanted medical devices (pacemakers etc.) from static magnetic fields as low as 0.5 mT. In many workshops there are magnetic chucks or plates that can easily exceed that level. Granted it’s about the proximity of the field to the medical device but if a worker is leaning over a machine it’s easy enough to get the chest close to a relatively high field.

In the picture we’ve got the Narda HP-01 (DC to 1 kHz) measuring the magnetic flux density from a couple of sources. Sometimes we see single axis Hall effect probes being used which really aren’t appropriate for safety assessments, the HP-01 provides total field as well as XYZ values.
