Overview

SOTM & radar

We design and build rotary joints for Ka, Ku & X-band satellite-on-the-move (SOTM) high-data-rate communication systems for military or commercial mobile platforms on land, sea or air plus large rotary joints for rotating radars.

All our rotary joints are designed and built in-house in Basingstoke, UK.

Our Rotary Joint Designs

Design, manufacture & service

Rotary joints are used to connect a rotating or moving antenna to a transmitter or receiver. Applications include commercial and defence radar systems such as air traffic control, coastal surveillance and UAV detection.

Our designs include coaxial contacting & contact free rotary joints in frequency ranges from DC to 40 GHz. We can integrate coaxial or waveguide designs with slip rings and encoders. Our dual channel units (including Ka band models for SOTM) have excellent isolation between channels. When space is critical such as UAV based satellite on the move systems we’re able to offer very compact outlines.  DC capability on the receive channel means the antenna’s LNB and tracking system can be powered via the rotary joint, thereby eliminating the need for additional slip rings, saving space and weight. Different configurations are available to suit specific antenna requirements.

In addition to our SOTM and small rotary joint range we have designs for medical and EMC test applications as well as much larger high power units for continuously rotating radar systems such as S-Band air traffic control or C & X-Band military surveillance radars.

We’re able to inspect, service & refurbish units that have been operating in the field, just contact us for further details.
