The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations 2016
The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations 2016 (CEMFAW 2016) are essentially the requirements of the EMFDirective 2013/35/EU transposed into UK law.
We get a few questions on the difference between the two documents but if you have based your company EMF policy on either you'll be OK as the differences are few and far between and relatively minor.
A good example is the wording on health surveillance which the Directive invokes if exposure exceeds the Exposure Limit Value (ELV) or a health effect is reported by the employee. CEMFAW replaces the 'or' with 'and' so that both exposure above the ELV and a reported health effect are required before the the employer needs to instigate some proactive health surveillance.
If you have any questions we're more than happy to help but remember there is plenty of free material like the HSE's 'guide to the Control of Electromganetic Fields at Work Regulations 2016' which can be downloaded free of charge from the HSE website. The snapplily titled 'Non-binding guide to good practice for implementing Directive 2013/35/EU' has an excellent 'Guide for SME's' which is short and easy to read compared to the much fuller (but still excellent) Practical Guide which can be referred to for much more detailed information. If you struggle finding the documents just drop us a line and we'll be happy to email them to you.
