The use of EMF safety area monitors makes sense in many environmental applications e.g. if a community has concerns about ambient fields and wants to monitor levels over a long period of time then area monitors are a useful tool.

Narda AMS 2600, AMB 8059 & AMS 8061 area monitors are all available for environmental EMF monitoring.

However in most occupational situations it’s difficult to position an area monitor so that it provides a suitable response representative of exposure to personnel e.g. as soon as a human body gets between the EMF source and the monitor the reading is no longer representative of the exposure of the body.

The Narda SMARTS II area monitor is designed for use in specific occupational applications. Compared to environmental EMF area monitors it’s a relatively small unit that can be positioned next to high power sources and/or where there might be a known failure mechanism that can cause exposure of personnel.
